Description

The Visual Arts Department Intern will play an instrumental role in helping administer our vibrant Visual Arts Department to underserved students, ages 6-19. The intern will specifically mentor HOLA youth in the arts, create and share artwork/ideas about community arts practice, assist HOLA staff in workspace and special projects, and serve as an active presence in the HOLA Art Studio. This position will work approximately 40 hours a week from June through August 2022.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community Ability to be a strong role model for youth and their families during all working hours as an artist and a teacher

Background

HOLA began in 1989 with only a handful of kids in a dilapidated gym, and today it has grown to serve 2,100 youth, ages 6-24, through structured and innovative academic, arts and athletic programs. HOLA’s core academic programs are supplemented by myriad enrichment offerings that include Youth Orchestra Los Angeles at Heart of Los Angeles (YOLA at HOLA), an HOLA Music Studios program, an Intergenerational Orchestra, a sophisticated Visual Arts Department, myriad athletic leagues, clinics and classes, STEAM initiatives, alumni support and scholarships, as well as a formal Family Services Department that includes case management services, wraparound and counseling support and emergency aid. Thousands of underserved youth have benefitted from HOLA’s high level of instruction and its 902-member staff and 300+ volunteer corps.
