Get Lit-Words Ignite seeks a Film & Digital Media Education Intern for a 3-month internship to work with our Deputy Director and Head of Technology in the student media program of our youth empowerment and literacy organization. They will help develop, schedule, and teach film classes, produce visual curriculum material for our online platform Uni(verse), and support students as they learn cinematography, editing, directing, and producing. They will help train student filmmakers in the use of Get Lit’s media equipment; facilitate communication between Get Lit staff, filmmakers, poets, and performers; create graphic marketing content; and engage in community outreach. This position will work approximately 40 hours a week from June through August 2024.
 

Qualifications

The right candidate will have taken several film and media classes, and have proficiency in production equipment and hardware, in the Adobe Creative Suite, G-Suite, and budgeting/scheduling software. We expect all applicants to have basic computer skills, have experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and be familiar with Macintosh operating systems. Applicants should be comfortable working in a professional setting, have an interest in media, literary and/or performing arts, and an ability to communicate professionally and effectively with a wide range of people including teenagers, parents of students, professional staff members, and organization Board Members.
 

Background

Get Lit uses poetry and visual media to improve literacy and empower youth and their communities.   Our programs span the classroom to career including: In-School Program with award-winning curricula; after-school poetry, filmmaking, and music workshops; open mics; summer camps; the Classic Slam spoken word competition; the Get Lit Players performance troupe; Literati Leadership Core; and the Get Lit Media film education program and student-run content studio.
