Get Lit-Words Ignite seeks a Development Intern to work with our Director of Development and senior staff members in the fundraising operations of our youth empowerment and literacy organization. The intern will help to complete grant requests and charitable donation acknowledgements and will assist in the planning of small and large-scale events, including logistics and fundraising outreach. This position will work approximately 15 hours a week from June through mid-December 2024.
Get Lit expects all applicants to have basic computer skills, have experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and be familiar with Macintosh operating systems. Candidates should also be comfortable working in a professional setting and have an interest in fundraising and development as well as literary and/or performing arts. Other skills useful for this position include: proofreading skills, event management, and an ability to communicate professionally and effectively with a wide range of people including teenagers, parents of students, professional staff members, and organization Board Members.
Get Lit uses poetry and visual media to improve literacy and empower youth and their communities. Through in- and after-school programs, Get Lit advances education, promotes literacy, and offers opportunities for under-resourced young people to create community, gain training in high-demand fields, and raise up their authentic voices. Our programs, each with poetry at its core, include: In-School Program, after-school poetry, filmmaking, and music workshops, open mics, summer camps, the Classic Slam competition, the Get Lit Players performance troupe, Literati Leadership Core, and the Get Lit Media film education program student-run content studio.
