Background

The nationally recognized and award-winning Skylight Theatre Company is acknowledged as “a leader in new play development,” by the LA Times. Focused on finding, developing, and then producing stories that reflect the rich diversity of Los Angeles, particularly stories written by underrepresented playwrights, our development and producing approach has provided a launching pad for plays and playwrights throughout the years. Since 2017, two plays originating at Skylight have been performed Off-Broadway, another is set to open in London in 2024. Main stage productions include ASL interpreted and affinity performances (i.e. LGBTQIA, Black Communities, etc.), while Skylight's Ticket Initiative focuses on improving access to live theater by supporting subsidized free, low-cost, and 'pay-what-you-can' tickets to multiple performances throughout the run. Skylight's 40th year advancing theater and theater artists in Los Angeles was in 2023.
